History of Club

Whenever a Lions Club gets together, problems get smaller and communities get better. That is because we help where help is needed in our own communities and around the world with unmatched integrity and energy.

Our 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make us the world s largest service club organization. We re also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses and helping hands, with seniors who dont have enough to flourish and with people we may never meet.

With the motto of WE SERVE, some energetic and benevolent people of the small town of Ranaghat joined their hands with the Lions Movement and established this Club on 31-12-1985 under the Presidentship of Late Panchu Gopal Kundu. Since its inception, the leaders of the Club tried their best to gather more and more people under the umbrella of this Club and put their best efforts to successfully arrange some projects one after another with the only aim of serving the needy people. In accordance with the International guidelines, our main stress was put on prevention of blindness apart from taking some other types of social welfare activities. We organized a lot of Eye Screening Camps and Eye Operation Camps at different corners of Ranaghat Town and surrounding areas as we did not have our own building at that time.

In the year of 1998, Dr Sunil Adhya, a respected gentleman and a hardworking physician, and his wife Smt Snigdha Adhya donated a piece of land at Biswaspara, Ranaghat in memory of Late Paramita Adhya and Late Ram Prasad De. We had a great relief and started to collect funds besides our own pockets in a great effort to construct a building there. At this time, some benevolent likeminded people came forward with Donations and we were able to purchase another piece of Land adjacent to the donated land. Our immediate controlling body DISTRICT 322B1 also extended their supporting hands to make our dream comes true. The building as a Shelter for Distressed was inaugurated on 23-06-2001 by the then District Governor of Lions District 322B Lion A P Singh.

In the year 2009, Sri Prasun Kundu, a renowned Chartered Accountant and a silent social worker, and his brother Sri Sangbaran Kundu donated another building at Dey Choudhury Street, Ranaghat in memory of their beloved brother Late Pradipta Kundu. We renovated the building in a beautiful manner and going to start our new project of Diagnostic Centre and Dental Hospital there very soon.

At present, we have a three storied building at Biswaspara, Ranaghat in which we run the Ranaghat Lions Eye Care Centre, Ranaghat Lions Diwalima Diagnostic Centre (a project of Lions District 322B1), Ranaghat Lions General Health Care Centre, Canteen, Spectacles Centre and an Auditorium. Apart from these, we run eleven Vision Centres at different villages, two Diagnostic Collection Centres, two Ambulances and one Patient Carrying Bus. We also arrange for Community Marriage, distribution of garments, study materials, sewing machines, tricycles, wheel chairs, hearing aids etc.

We have many Members now from different segments of people and all of them are trying their best for the advancement of our Club with the single aim of supporting the needy people of the Society.
